Chapter 261 - 248: The Kingdom Needs No Nobles, and Even Less So a King! (Please Subscribe)
For those who lack magical talent, gaining power becomes an exceedingly difficult task. @@novelbin@@
Generally speaking, one must diligently hone their own skills, pass the church’s assessments to earn the chance of consuming a potion of godly grace, become a clergyman, or rely on the family heritage to become a Bloodline Knight, in order to gain strength surpassing that of an average person.
Lynn even speculated that these families, allegedly with powerful heritage, must be descendants of incredibly strong Shaping Wizards.
The church, however, did not attempt to completely annihilate them, or perhaps “Ella” believed these people were no threat at all.
Also, because there were not many ways to gain power, even William, who possessed vast wealth and noble status, had to rely on methods like the Evil God Statue.
...
According to the intelligence gathered by Laud and others these days, worshiping evil gods was not something rare among some nobles and was even quite popular in the Sekas Empire.
This was indeed a quick shortcut to becoming stronger, but unfortunately, it was also a trap…
Lynn examined the Blood God Statue in his hands, turning it over and over, always very curious about what divine arts really were, and how they could enable a person to display various miraculous supernatural powers without understanding the principles of the spells.
Obviously, this was not the sole privilege of the church. Previously, when dealing with the Doomsday Church followers, Lynn had sensed something amiss. The practice of Shadow Magic was difficult, and most of it was on record, yet during the surprise attack on the Doomsday Church base, a large number of wizards capable of using Shadow Magic emerged.
It was likely that they had been granted these abilities through a method similar to divine arts!
Lynn pondered for a long time. In fact, his actions of linking wizards through the magic network to draw computing power were somewhat similar to the divine ascension method created by Spiritual Energy Wizards; both used external forces to raise their own power limits.
The difference was that his methods were milder and utilized the smart brain as a medium. Perhaps it was for this reason that Lynn had not perceived the spiritual pollution mentioned by Harrov and others…
Since the smart brain could conduct part of the knowledge directly into another person’s mind, then if one were to fully decipher the other’s spiritual power frequency, could magic be granted to someone else in the same manner as divine arts?
It might be worth trying at some point.
As he was contemplating, a faint light appeared on the index finger of his right hand, and Lynn immediately realized that Anthony had once again entered the Magic Domain.
Within the miniature cosmos of Magic Mimicry, Anthony stood amidst the void, gazing at the Star Map beneath his feet that was in constant motion.
Unlike the previous, simple shock, after systemically studying the knowledge of arcane mathematics, he was now able to deduce the relative positions and motions of each star.
Contact with Lynn over these days further revealed to Anthony that the breadth of Lynn’s knowledge far exceeded his expectations. From the formation of thunder and lightning to the cosmic laws of the starry sky, Lynn addressed them with ease.
However, according to Lynn, this knowledge was just the basics, the most superficial laws of the world, and the underlying causes belonged to another, much deeper field of study.
That might very well be a realm only perceivable in the legends!
“It seems you have something to discuss with me, Anthony?” Lynn’s figure materialized within the Magic Domain, speaking with confusion, as it was not the time for teaching.
“Correct.” Anthony nodded, then spoke again. “Recently, the old King’s health has deteriorated day by day, and the dispute between the two Princes has become increasingly fierce. Currently, the second Prince, Hattar, is looking to either court or cut off some of his opponent’s wings.”
“I’ve heard that it was William you dispatched to serve under Harold?” Anthony cautiously inquired.
“You could say that.” Lynn replied with ease.
“Then this will make things much easier.” Anthony breathed a sigh of relief, and then he began to tell Lynn about his plan for a Magic Kingdom.
Simply put, it was to secretly support the second Prince Hattar’s ascension to the throne, incite the royal family and some nobles to confront the church, ensuring that wizards have a place to stay within the country, and create a Magic World that controls the kingdom from the shadows.
But after learning about the existence of Wizard Land and the Secret Magic Society, Anthony’s ambition undoubtedly grew much larger. Perhaps they could take it a step further and collaborate with the royal family and some nobles to completely eradicate the local church’s influence, creating a realm truly belonging to the wizards!
However, this would mean facing the inevitable crusade from the church as well as the Sekas Empire, a confrontation no single school of wizards could withstand. Hence, Anthony needed to ascertain the stance of Wizard Land and the Secret Magic Society.
“So, after the establishment of your Magic Kingdom, who will be the true rulers of this kingdom—wizards or nobles?” Lynn interjected with a sudden question after listening to Anthony’s proposal.
“Of course, it is…” Anthony intended to say the wizards, but he was keenly aware of the nobility’s deep-rooted power within the kingdom, which was not easily shaken.
“Wizards could cooperate with the royal family to manage the nobility, who in turn would manage the commoners!” Anthony thoughtfully said, considering it the most sensible approach.
“This will inevitably lead to problems. Those nobles, tired of being stepped on by the church, would never tolerate wizards doing the same.” Lynn spoke with certainty.
“Don’t tell me you plan to maintain the status quo?” Anthony frowned.
In fact, he had never before considered taking control over each territory. As long as the Kingdom of Hadarata allowed the wizards to exist, to study magic openly without hiding, he saw this as a tremendous victory!
And so, there would be no conflict between the nobility and the wizards.
“No.” Lynn shook his head. “Your plan for a Magic Kingdom is good, but your vision is too limited!”
Anthony stood frozen for a moment, not quite understanding the other’s meaning.
“In my view, the Kingdom of Hadarata doesn’t need nobility, and it certainly doesn’t need a King!” Lynn declared solemnly.
Reform fears half measures the most. Leaving behind a large number of old-power interest groups would become maggots undermining the system internally, not to mention that their conflict with the nobility was sharp and unavoidable.
To put it simply, if the majority of the kingdom’s subjects were to work in factories, following his commands, then where would the nobility’s power and prestige be?
Therefore, it was a matter of time before conflicts erupted…
